Introductory 'Discover' Lessons

Discover Classic Skiing

Classic skiing is the traditional cross-country skiing technique which involves a “kick and glide” or “diagonal stride” in groomed tracks.  From toddler to senior, everybody can pick up this technique quickly and enjoy the beauty of the trails. At Whistler Olympic Park all trails are groomed with tracks for classic skiing.

Every new skier should take the “Discover Lesson”. Learn about your equipment, how to glide, climb hills and stop. A great way to build your confidence and trail knowledge! The Discover Classic program is offered every Saturday and Sunday, beginning December 16, 2017 through April 2nd, 2018 and daily over the holidays (Dec 23, 2017- Jan 7, 2018 and Feb 12, 2018).

Discover Skate Skiing

Skate skiing or “Free Technique,” resembling the skating technique used on ice for hockey and speed skating, is the newcomer to the disciplines of Nordic skiing. In Skate skiing participants ski on a groomed surface without the grooves used for classic skiing.  At Whistler Olympic Park all trails are groomed for skate skiing. Skate skiing, which is faster than classic skiing, entered the competitive forum in the mid-eighties and is also the technique used by biathletes and Nordic combined athletes.

Learn skate skiing techniques on flat terrain, up-hill climbs and descents. Discover how to introduce skate skiing into your health and fitness regime. The Discover Skate program is offered every Saturday and Sunday, beginning December 16, 2017 through April 2, 2018 and daily over the holidays (Dec 23, 2017 - Jan 7, 2018).
