Night Skiing Under the Stars at Whistler Olympic Park
Night Skiing Under the Stars at Whistler Olympic Park
When winter darkness settles in early and the evenings at home start to feel long, there’s a place just south of Whistler where night doesn’t mean slowing down—it means stepping into something magical. A short drive up to the Callaghan Valley opens the door to a world of light, snow, and star-filled skies that feels a million miles away from town.
A Whole New World After Dark
Whistler Olympic Park, the venue of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, takes on a quieter presence at night. The Olympic ski jumps are lit, standing out against the sky as you move through the trails below. Cross-country ski or snowshoe on 6 km of groomed, lit trails, perfect for both relaxed gliding and evening workouts. Prefer a more adventurous feel? Bring a headlamp and light up your own path on groomed trails surrounded by old-growth forest.
The Neverland Starlight Loop
Midway through the network, you’ll discover the Neverland Starlight Loop. Set on a beginner-friendly trail, this half-kilometre section is transformed with dynamic projections and illuminated elements that create a memorable experience for families and first-time night skiers.
Fires, Friends, and Cozy Moments
Out on the trails, two outdoor fire pits invite you to pause, warm your hands, and look up at the stars. For dog owners, the experience extends to the Dog Loop, Porter’s Glide, where skiers gather with headlamps and softly lit dog collars before stopping at the Goosebumps Warming Hut, complete with a fireplace and outdoor fire pit. It’s an experience that encourages people to linger a little longer.
indulge in après-ski
When you’re ready to warm up properly, the Day Lodge offers a welcoming place to slow down. The café and lounge are open with dinner specials made using local, house-made ingredients. With two fireplaces, a boutique, and large windows looking out to the night sky, it’s easy to settle in. Rentals and Guest Services remain open, making evening visits simple and accessible.
A Sky Like Nowhere Else
One of the Callaghan Valley’s greatest gifts is its darkness. With no light pollution, clear nights reveal thousands of stars, long sunsets behind distant glaciers, and, on occasion, the Northern Lights overhead. It’s a reminder of how winter can feel when you step beyond the village lights.
Night skiing at Whistler Olympic Park isn’t just about extending the day—it’s about experiencing winter evenings differently. Instead of staying indoors, you’re moving under the stars, warming up by the fire, and sharing quiet moments that make winter nights memorable.
