The Grand Fondo event will be taking place Saturday, September 12. We have just learned  that road closures will remain in effect until 3:00 PM. In previous years, closures have ended around 12:00 PM, so this extended timeline was unexpected and was not anticipated to impact arriving guests.

We sincerely apologize for this late notice and for any inconvenience this change may cause. Unfortunately, we only received this updated information from the event organizers this morning and wanted to share it with you as soon as possible.

To help make your extended stay more enjoyable, we will be offering discounts on the following activities and rentals throughout the road closure period:

  • Summer Biathlon
  • Disc Golf Rentals
  • Pickleball Rentals

Our team will be happy to provide details and assist with bookings during your stay.

Thank you for your flexibility and understanding. If these road closures affect your arrival plans, please contact us and we will do our best to assist. info@whistlerolympicpark.com. 604-964-0059.

As per Tourism Whistler:
RBC GranFondo Whistler Traffic Impacts

The RBC GranFondo Whistler takes place on Saturday, September 12, with more than 5,500 cyclists expected to ride from Vancouver to Whistler, where visitors will find a range of spectator experiences.

Motorists should expect significant delays and changing traffic patterns along the Sea to Sky Highway from approximately 5:30 AM to 4 PM. Highway 99 will remain open to northbound and southbound traffic throughout the day, with reduced speeds, lane closures and temporary traffic stoppages in some areas. Motorists should plan ahead and allow extra travel time, with delays of up to three hours possible.

New this year, Forte and Medio riders will travel through the Callaghan Valley instead of Cypress Mountain due to construction on Cypress Bowl Road. Callaghan Valley Road will be fully closed to vehicle traffic in both directions from 8 AM to 3 PM.

Within Whistler, expect significant delays between Function Junction and Whistler Village. Village Gate Boulevard will be closed to traffic entering or exiting Highway 99, with Lorimer Road and Whistler Way available as alternate routes. Alta Lake Road will also be available as an alternate route to Highway 99.

Full details regarding the anticipated traffic impacts during the event are available on the Traffic Advisories page of the RBC GranFondo Whistler website.
